As has been reported in the press recently, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council is proposing to allow the building of 'affordable homes' on land near the shops at Radipole Lane, Southill, Weymouth. The land in question is designated a 'Community Area'. This means that currently, anything built there must be for use by the community. The council want to change that.
With so many local residents talking about their objections to it, it was decided to raise a petition against it. The petition was launched on Friday afternoon (9th November) and already has in excess of 120 signatures. For more information, there is a webpage on this site, giving some of the history of the land too. An online version of the petition should be available very soon and I will post here about it when it is. Save Our Southill Community Area |

I have over 300 signatures on paper here and there are now some on the online petition too. I don't know how many signatures there are on the sheets at the various places who have it as I've not had the opportunity recently to go round them all.
If you would like to sign the petition, it is available at: Tidings Newsagents, Southill Shampers of Southill, hairdressers The John Gregory pub, Southill Kidz R Us pre-school, Southill Charlestown Post Office, Chickerell I'm not sure if Southill Community Centre or Emmanuel Church, Southill have it as yet, but they may have. The online version is available through the link at the bottom of the Save Our Southill page on this website and in this topic of the forum. |

Just a quick update on this to let you know that the petition is to be presented to the Council by the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland early in February. I'm afraid I cannot remember the exact date that David (the Mayor) told me  but I hope to hand it over to David at the end of January.
There is still time to sign it at the various locations mentioned in previous posts or via the online version - see the Save Our Southill page for a link. |

Update:
The online petition is now closed, but the paper version can still be signed at Tidings Newsagents, Southill or by contacting me. It is due to be presented to the Mayor later this month. The Mayor would like yours truly to present it to him officially at the Council meeting :scared: :panic: |
