Battle of Weymouth & the Crabchurch Conspiracy of 1645 Commemoration Event
On Saturday 7th February 2009 a spectacular re-enactment took place in commemoration of the Battle of Weymouth and the Crabchurch Conspiracy of 1645. It was a fantastic day out and one that brought Weymouth's history to life for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. Locations such as Sandsfoot Castle, the Old Town Hall, the Boot, the old High Street (now mostly the council's car park), the Old Harbour and the Nothe all featured in the march through old Weymouth as they had in the battle of 1645.
The event is in today's Echo: A Very Civil War
and some photographs of the event are on Facebook: Civil War & Commemoration of Battle of Weymouth 1645 photos
The true story of the Crabchurch Conspiracy is told in a book by local author Mark Vine and is available through this website if you'd like to find out more about it.
Well done to all those involved in the organisation of the event, it was a truly wonderful thing to see and clearly a lot of effort had been put into making it so.
