Westham 125 Event A Great Success

The Westham 125 event, to commemorate 125 years of Westham's history, was held yesterday, Saturday 26th April and was very well attended indeed. The lovely weather brought people out and all the attractions were enjoyed by many. The history display (which had turned into more of an exhibition with the amount on display) had queues to get in! The interest shown in it was truly amazing and well exceeded any expectations.

Congratulations to all who helped towards the event for making it such a success. Without the committee, the sponsors, the helpers, and especially Andy Spracklen of the Portland Steam and Vintage Show, who organised and did so much to ensure the larger attractions were there, the event would not have been the great success it was.

Sad End to Rackmead

I have no doubt that many feel that WPBC planning department's recent decision to allow the demolition of Rackmead is a sad event indeed. At the end of the day, it's all about money. To those who don't care about our history and heritage, money is more important and that being the case with Rackmead has been clearly illustrated.

Demolition and new build is VAT-free, renovation is not. Is it not about time that legislation was changed to promote the saving of our history and heritage?

Either way, the planning department hold our heritage in their hands when it comes to making decisions such as this. Shame on them for destroying our local scenery and our heritage.
