Radipole Lane Closed Through Radipole Village

As from 10th March, Radipole Lane through the village of Radipole will be closed to traffic for 4 weeks. This is to allow improvements to be made to make the road safer at and near the junction with Causeway and around the bridge area.

I had thought it was from today and noticed this morning that there was hardly any traffic in Radipole Lane at Southill. Maybe, motorists on seeing the signs up and just quickly registering the closure of the road, also think it is from today.

So what are they doing? So I'm told, some kind of chicane is being put in to slow the traffic descending the hill into the village and ensure that those who think they own the road and can therefore drive in the middle of it, will now have to learn that they don't own the road and have to drive on their side. About time too!

Most local residents are very much aware of the inherent dangers at this point due to the narrowness of the road and bridge, as well as the bends and so they respect this and drive more slowly and carefully, ever aware of the pedestrians who take their lives in their hands each time they walk along or cross the road.

I hope those who live in the immediate vicinity will enjoy the peace while it lasts. Heaven knows, they deserve some.

I I live at Letterbox Cottage and with regards to the road closure which will be taking place as from 10th March 2008. At the moment the volume of traffic is reduced, but once the closure comes into force, it will be like having the village back. During the closure, we are hoping to arrange a village street party and will try and keep you posted when the date has been set.

Please do. I did hear about the street party yesterday from a mutual acquaintance who shares the same name as you ;-)

It certainly is quieter in Radipole Lane as I noticed again this afternoon. Would be nice if it could always be that quiet, but maybe the headline of this showing on the front page of the site (and me having initially got the wrong date) will deter a few more!

Had 3 lovely years living in Rye Cottage in Radipole 1986 onwards,
loved it there and only moved due to new career. Remember when the by pass opened and how the road went quiet then. Hope the street party goes well. Hard to believe it is 20 years since I moved, will always look on my time with great affection. Just hoping for a lottery win so I can move back to Dorset!!!
